We watched Rose and Ghost Light last night, probably making it the most Doctor Who I've seen in one place for ten years. It was probably unfair to watch them both together, since Rose (being the first episode of the new season) came out second best by comparison, but we can't really blame it for that. It was fun and good-looking, with some effective moments and a cast of much potential.
Meanwhile, Ghost Light remains a whirlpool of cool bits, scary bits, clumsy bits and damn interesting stuff, all mixed up. The attempted axe murder followed by dinner is brilliant, and if I ever complain about the frenetic pace of modern TV, just point me in this direction.
(ie, Rose, which I think did cover up a rather shallow plot with much colour and movement, but it would be too soon to condemn it just yet. Introductions are tricky.)
We also confirmed that Burnt Toast does indeed get a mention on the GL commentary track, which is nice.
The program was actually a farewell for a friend who is leaving ANSTO for greener pastures, so much good luck to him.
